Alex was tired, but not exhausted by any means. Even though it had been a while since she'd landed in Goldcrest and she was beginning to grow accustomed to the city and her new station in life, even the most mundane of tasks still felt fresh and exciting. In recent weeks she'd been relieved to find she had been given a new job outside the Enclave. Her previous role as a courier had been a mixed bag. On the one hand she enjoyed moving about and exploring the urban sprawl of Goldcrest but on the other she too often found herself lost and wandered around trying to find her way. After having gotten into trouble it was decided she would be pulled from the streets and sent to the estate for a prominent family where she now served as a chambermaid for one of the daughters. That, too, was a mixed bag.
Since mages weren't allowed to keep hold of their own money, the few coin Alex had been given as a reward from one of the more generous members of the house was in need of spending before she returned home. It wasn't enough to buy a new dress (not that she'd find much reason to wear anything other than the issued robes from the Enclave) so the young mage opted to treat herself to a meal after she'd been dismissed from the estate for the evening.
The sun had just slipped behind the horizon when Alex pushed her way into the Lazy Drake. She didn't have enough money to get much at the Honeybrew Meadery and she knew there was no stomaching the swill she'd be handed at the Hole (why she even knew about that place to begin with was beyond her) making the happy medium found at the Drake the way to go. And, yes, Alex had spent far too much time standing in the street as she contemplated all this.
Climbing up onto a bar stool Alex immediately looked and felt out of place. Most of the Drake's patrons were working folk, merchants and craftsmen who had made themselves some money and were unwinding after a hard day. Alex, in her finely crafted robe with the easily identified crest of the Enclave embroidered into the cloth stood out among the brown and tan tunics and shirts most of the others wore. Beyond that, the girl's youth and diminutive size only further distanced her from the folk around her.
Both hands flew into the air as Alex waved cheerily at the young woman behind the bar. With a childlike energy Alex beamed at Luxanna Viera . "Luxanna!" She exclaimed happily. The innkeep was one of the few non-mage acquaintances Alex had made in her short time in Goldcrest. Luxanna was, quite simply, the sweetest girl Alex had ever met. Her only regret was her inability to visit as often as she'd like. "I'm sorry it's been so long since I came around." Alex admitted with a sigh as her feet swung back and forth from the stool. "After the trouble I got into a while back I wasn't allowed to leave."
