After recently undergoing a bit of scrutiny from someone who seemed to seek out information about the Chevalier, Kol found himself more on edge than he usually was. In fact, he hardly ever allowed himself to feel on edge. He hardly ever allowed himself to feel anything. That was the Chevalier way. But this person, this interviewer knew things that he'd kept hidden or at the very least under wraps for a very long time. Nearly ten years as a member of the Order, and yet he'd been training well before that to become what he was now. His past, his history, was something he had kept to himself for nearly his whole life.
As a member of the Chevalier, he was meant to keep his own emotions and feelings in check. He couldn't allow himself to feel much more than indifference and caution. He was meant to keep order, to keep everything safe and to protect the mages from themselves as well as protect everyone else from the mages. Most of the time, he had no trouble with doing his job, but at times, such as this one, he found it difficult to rein in all of the emotions that the interviewer had stirred within him.
Kol was distracted as he made his rounds and although he was alert, he wasn't as aware of his surroundings as he should have been. As he'd been trained to be. While he walked through the Enclave, he passed mages of all ages and kept his eyes from focusing on any one in particular. Which was likely why he'd not been looking ahead and found himself bumping into a figure that was much smaller than he'd expected.
His eyes widened and he steadied both himself and the girl before he noted who it was, "My apologies, Miss Sawyer."
