Rest. Something he barely gave himself. Yet he understood the importance of. There was a balance between work and play. Too much made his men resentful. Too much play made them careless. In this city, that couldn't happen. Especially in this day and age. The Coterie were defeated, but temporarily. The tensions were lessened, but still there. He wanted to be ready for anything. Keep the city safe. He could do that much. Or die trying.
He came alone. He could find company if he wanted it. For now, all he wanted was a drink. So he went straight to the bar. He could feel a few eyes on him. Namely, his armor. It labeled him as a guard. While some didn't care too much, others were cautious. No one wanted to cause trouble. Especially with the captain. "Excuse me, could I get a drink?" From his experience, being polite could usually go a long way in taverns. Especially with the usual riff-raff some of the bartenders had to deal with.
Erin held a passionate love for her occupation, but the sick did not get ill on schedule. In between her shifts caring for the city’s youth, she would make her rounds to the people who needed her soothing herbs and her gentle touch. With so many in need, Erin was left with little time to take care of herself. Still, there were rare occasions, like tonight, when she opted to spare a moment to recuperate and unwind.
Making her way to The Lazy Drake, Erin slipped inside with the hopes of seeing her friend, Luxanna. To her disappointment, she wasn’t there, but she enjoyed the inn’s food and atmosphere enough to stay. The tavern was busy tonight, but she managed to find an open spot near the corner of the bar. “Is this seat taken?” Her quiet, mild voice asked the man sitting on the next stool over.

A voice spoken up. Was this seat taken? Lionel glanced over at the source. It was a woman. Younger than him and certainly what most would call pretty. He offered a smile. "No miss. Go ahead and take it." If she didn't mind sitting next to him, hopefully she wouldn't mind a chat. Lionel would be very content talking with her. Yet her voice was quiet. Mild. Calming even. Though she didn't seem shy. Not if she took the seat next to him so easily.
His drink came. Lionel thanked the worked and took a swig. Something to settle him. Make him relax. Or some most said alcohol did. He looked back over at the girl. Observed. "So, what brings you out here sitting next to a bear like me?" He asked, trying to be nice. The gruffness of his appearance and voice did not help usually. Contrary to first glance, he wasn't a hug brooder. Thinker perhaps. Brooding? Hardly. "Just trying to relax a bit like I am?" A chuckle followed the sentence.
The caretaker took it upon herself to judge others based on their actions, not who they were or what they looked like. Too often decent people would be cast aside as misfits because they didn’t, or couldn’t, conform to a predetermined version of normalcy. Erin would never be one to subscribe to such provincial thinking. She only hoped that in welcoming the world with an open heart, she would be accepted too.
Offering the stranger a good-natured smile, she nodded as she took her seat. “Yes, I am. It’s been a very long day.” The barmaid circled over and Erin ordered a small glass of mead. She rarely drank, but she knew that tonight she would need more than time and a jovial atmosphere to uncoil the stressful knots in her mind.
“So, what are you taking a break from?” She asked, making her best attempt at friendly conversation.

It had been a very long day for her as well. Lionel's sympathy went out to the girl. The day appeared to be a long one for more than just him. Must've been something in the air. It had been hotter than usual. That might've had to do with it. "It really has been." He agreed with a nod before drinking some more. Misery loved company. And she seemed like a good one.
What was he taking a break from? "Patrolling, among other things." It had been uneventful, but long. He wished for a bed as much as he did a drink. "After being on my feet all day, it's nice to take a seat and enjoy a cold drink. Especially in this heat." It was almost unnaturally hot. Wearing his armor had been hard for once. "What about you, miss?"
