From a young age, Fiel Ingvatt and his family knew he was different. He was quieter and less socially engaged than other children his age, and he was always there to lend a helping hand when others might have turned the other way because it was easier to ignore a bad situation.
Fiel was born and raised by his family in Therin, where his father and older brother served the military. Until the age of thirteen, he lived comfortably there. His family was by no means wealthy, but they were almost never for want and Fiel hardly knew what it meant to live without something important. He was also quite close to his family and hardly kept a secret, which often resulted in some of his friends being punished for a prank or two, much to their distaste. He was infamous for his honesty as well as his desire to help others, and his family, who certainly loved him very much, kept a careful eye on him.
One day, weary, bruised, and cut from doing chores for neighbors, Fiel rested beneath a shaded tree and willed himself healthy again. He had meant only to rest for a few minutes before returning home and had closed his eyes to do so, but when he opened them minutes later, he found that his cuts and bruises had mended. At first, he was surprised and a little excited. Then, he realized that the ground beneath him was dry and that someone magic had happened to him. Afraid, he leaped to his feet and looked around. Finding no one, he immediately rushed him.
Fiel first met his mother, who accepted him into her arms and waited to press him for an explanation for why he was so flustered. "I just used magic," he explained, for he had been alone when it happened. His mother immediately understood what this meant, and she stayed with her son for a good hour before releasing him to write a letter to the Enclave. Frightened at losing his family, Fiel pleaded with his tear-stricken mother, to no avail. "The Enclave is the safest place for you," she explained, and although he knew she was right, he was still apprehensive about leaving his home.
His journey to Goldcrest was hardly enjoyed. He spent his time solemn and fearful of what was to come rather than excited to harness his abilities. It wasn't until he arrived at the Enclave that he learned what this meant: he could perform magic, which could be used to help others. When the Enclave mages explained to him what was expected of their members, Fiel slowly began to realize that his new abilities would be protected by the Enclave, as long as he followed their orders, and that he could use them to help others even more. He was suddenly filled with a new spirit and began to embrace his gifts quite eagerly.
Now, at sixteen, Fiel has worked with his gifts for three years and believes in the importance of the Enclave. Had he not been taken from his family, his magic might have hurt others or even gotten his family and him executed. He didn't remain in constant contact with his family, but the occasional letters are exchanged between Therin and the Enclave. Recently, the Enclave placed Fiel in a healer's shop, where he quite willingly assists the healer in gathering, distributing, and using materials to help others as well as learns valuable new skills and information from the healer.
He is a calm, observational, and resourceful young mage who is confident in his capacity to learn more and do well. However, Fiel longs to explore the world beyond Goldcrest, even though it is impossible for someone like him, and while most of his days are filled with satisfaction with his work, many of his days are filled with sadness at being stuck in one place.----------------------------------------------------------------------------- the player --
