Not every life starts out ideal. Charlie’s didn’t. Her mother was a Magnolia. A Magnolia she never met. A Magnolia she never planned on meeting. She was left with her father. A man Charlie called Rhett. It was said with affection. With love. The absence of the other was mainly forgotten. A curiosity that lasted only a fleeting few moments. She was told the truth. Straight and clear. Magnolia would never return. Charlie didn’t want her to.
Instead she had her father. A blacksmith. He was simple. Kind. Smart. Forgiving. Accepting. Inspirational. He had his flaws. No one was perfect. Neither Rhett nor Charlie. But to her he was perfectly imperfect. The right balance she needed. Together they made a life. Took what they had and ran with it. It wasn’t easy. Charlie did not live in luxury. But she learned to make it. Accepted the truth and let it make her stronger. She learned how to adapt and how to appreciate. She pursued what she wanted with all her heart. Rhett encouraged her, but let Charlie carve her own way.
Stumble changed into stride. Charlie grew more independent, but didn’t push her father away. Rhett was wise, and Charlie had much to learn. They were similar in practically all else if not in body. They shared the same passion for machinery. The same level of drive. The same skill working with their hands. Charlie was undisputedly her daddy’s daughter. She didn’t mind that one bit. She was proud of their connection. Their level of communication and understanding. It came in handy when realization struck her. When she no longer sought chiseled chests but swinging hips. For the first time she was nervous. But it had been in vain. He’d know from the beginning, and didn’t care. It only served to connect them further.
Then fate dealt its hand. Someone in the family died. A grandfather who Charlie had met a few times. It was a sad funeral, but then they got the news. Rhett had been left a lot. There was far more money than anyone expected, even with Rhett’s sister taking half. Immediately Rhett used the money to move to Goldcrest. War had helped their job, yet Rhett thought it too dangerous. They escaped Astilon to Goldcrest. Began a new life. She was unsure at first. It was a whole new world. But she had her father, and to her that was all that mattered.----------------------------------------------------------------------------- the player --
